A four hour train ride from Wadakanchery (near the retreat centre) takes you to Allepy and the famous Kerala Backwaters. We booked an overnight stay for two on a traditional wooden boat, complete with a friendly Captain, excellent Chef and First Mate. We toured through the maze of palm lined canals and docked in the middle of one of the fresh water lakes. Huge fresh prawns were purchased from a fisherman along the way which were prepared for dinner in a delicious masala sauce.  There was a spectacular sunset accompanied by the sounds of chanting from several temples surrounding the lake. Our thanks to Lakeland tours for an excellent “honeymoon”  !!!
